London

I lived in London from 1969 to 1979 when I moved to America, returning to London in 1991 where I stayed until March 2015.

In 1992 I bought an apartment on the Isle of Dogs, just below Canary Wharf, when much of the redevelopment of Docklands was still ongoing. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) was still being tested and extended so made travelling quite interesting. At Christmas 1992 the DLR conductors came around with mince pies for the travellers and we received easter eggs at Easter 1993. These free handouts didn't last long unfortunately as more passengers started using the service it became too expensive to continue.

I moved into an apartment in London Yard, Isle of Dogs, in July 1992 and stayed until March 2015. The London Yard estate is on the east side of the Isle of Dogs, on the river and opposite the O2 Arena. There is a pond in the middle of the estate containing fish, terrapins, and ducks. A lovely place to live. The terrapins were dumped in the pond by parents after the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' craze died out and their children became bored with looking after them. There were many goldfish in the pond from people who moved out and put their goldfish in the pond rather than attempting to move them to their new address.

The O2 Arena is directly across from the London Yard estate and I passed it whenever I walked along the Thames Path to Greenwich.

Took this picture on an early morning walk along the river.

I often went on walks around London with a group of friends and took this picture on one of our walks. Don't remember exactly where I took it from.
